KLog – a Portuguese company specializing in creating value-added solutions for the logistics and transport sector – has just become the first Portuguese company to join Green Freight Europe (GFE). This international program, launched in 2012, aims to improve fuel efficiency and promote sustainable transport in Europe. IKEA, Heineken, Procter & Gamble, and Philips are just some of the dozens of companies that are part of Green Freight Europe.
GFE also aims to promote collaboration between carriers and reward companies that meet the program’s requirements, which limit carbon emission levels. Aware of the difficulties in calculating these emissions, Green Freight Europe offers a platform where companies enter the operational data necessary to calculate, validate, and monitor the environmental performance of their transport operations. The platform is managed by a neutral and independent entity that guarantees the confidentiality of the information and the transparency of the process.
José Cardoso, administrator of KLog, states that “this is the first time that companies in the logistics and transport sector have come together to define a standard system for measuring carbon dioxide emissions.” As a green carrier, KLog plays an important role: “This is a fundamental cooperation, since it allows the creation of a balanced and practical system, supported by the logistics and transport industry itself,” concludes the manager.
