KLOG and CFL multimodal launch one of Europe’s longest intermodal rail connections

KLOG and Luxembourg’s multimodal company CFL have launched a new intermodal rail connection between Sète (France) and Poznań (Poland), one of the longest in Europe, exceeding two thousand kilometers.

This connection, with one trip per week, ensures the supply of IKEA products in the Spanish market, as well as products for the Inditex Group in Poznań, where the company has its main warehouse, to meet online orders from Central Europe.

The train, which includes up to 38 wagons and a special one for P400 platforms, guaranteeing multimodal flexibility and fast loading, will connect the Spanish and Polish markets in 48 hours, saving more than 12,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

“It is a great source of pride for KLOG to join these highly recognized partners in international markets,” states Egídio Lopes, managing director of KLOG, adding that “this new connection between Sète and Poznań, made possible thanks to the involvement of CFL, continues KLOG’s vision of investing in rail as the most sustainable solution for freight transport.”

Sven Löffle, chief commercial officer of CFL multimodal, expresses satisfaction with the collaboration with KLOG, as well as with IKEA and the Inditex Group, to achieve a more sustainable future. He adds that “the potential expansion of this new connection, with more door-to-door solutions, is also being evaluated, leveraging the partnership for future collaborations.”

The Inditex Group is also committed to environmental sustainability, aiming to reach zero emissions by 2040. Abel López Cernadas, the group’s import, export and transport director, states that “this new land logistics partnership, which converts road traffic to rail, allows us to advance our ambitious decarbonization goal while maintaining the agility and flexibility that characterize our business model.”

In turn, Dariusz Mroczek, manager of transport operations for the IKEA supply chain, indicates that “the collaboration with CFL multimodal, KLOG and the Inditex Group shows the importance of working together to transform the logistics sector, increasing the share of rail transport over longer distances, thus contributing to a fairer and more sustainable working environment.”
