The company anticipates that its partnership with Transfesa will allow it to reach a turnover of five million euros in this segment in 2014.

KLOG – a Portuguese-owned company specializing in creating value-added solutions for the logistics and transport sector – is the only national carrier to directly connect Portugal to Catalonia by rail. This exclusive operation is the result of a partnership with the Spanish company Transfesa and guarantees a transit time of just 48 hours. KLOG invested €350,000 in this operation and anticipates that this year the partnership will generate a turnover of €5 million in this segment.
With two weekly connections, KLOG operates from Portugal, connecting to the Alfarelos terminal in the central region. In Spain, the Valladolid, Grannolers, and Constanti terminals, managed by Transfesa, are used for connections. The operation will be carried out with full loads of general merchandise, including dangerous goods, for both export and import. Furniture, paper industry, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, chemical and petroleum industries are just some of the sectors from which the goods traded in this service originate. IKEA, Saint-Gobain Weber & Euroyser, and Domplex are KLOG’s main clients in this segment.
Given that Catalonia is one of the regions from which Portugal imports the most, KLOG anticipates a 95 percent utilization rate for each transport mode. According to José Cardoso, KLOG’s administrator, “railway operation is a transport solution with a bright future and great potential for growth.” For this reason, “KLOG continues to invest more and more in this area, and is already developing other projects for 2014 and 2015,” he concludes.
