Sustainable Rail Corridor – Catalonia (ES) to Poland (PL)

Business Study

Context / Challenge

A major retail client with strict environmental policies, along with a global textile company managing high-volume flows, required a sustainable and efficient transport solution between Catalonia and Poland.

Additionally, several intermediaries across the supply chain needed dependable weekly capacity and predictable lead times to ensure operational continuity.

Objectives

  • Deliver a sustainable and environmentally responsible logistics solution
  • Guarantee stable weekly capacity and year-round pricing consistency
  • Improve transit time reliability for all key stakeholders involved
  • Enable the transport of semi-trailers with 3-meter internal height, meeting specific cargo requirements

Solution Implemented

A dedicated rail corridor was established between Catalonia (ES) and Poland (PL), offering a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional road transport.
This intermodal solution ensures:

  • Weekly service availability, meeting the needs of both direct clients and supply chain partners
  • Stable transit times, enhancing planning and operational efficiency
  • Cost predictability, regardless of seasonal fluctuations
  • Use of T3000 wagons, specifically designed to carry Huckepack P400 semi-trailers, which support the required 3-meter internal height

Results / Impact

  • A consistent and reliable weekly rail service is now fully operational
  • The installed capacity allows for scalable frequency as demand increases
  • The solution contributes to CO₂ emissions reduction, directly supporting the sustainability goals of both clients
